Meet Emma: A Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Miracle Child

CMN Week One Story
CT - Emma Duffin_FINAL

Stupid cancer, said Emma with a smile. Soon enough, that became Emma’s motto during her battle with an especially rare form of leukemia, Acute undifferentiated leukemia.

At age 7, Emma developed strep throat and a 104-degree fever. Her mother rushed her to the emergency room, and her cancer diagnosis came three days later.

After three rounds of chemotherapy, Emma needed a bone marrow transplant. Her older brother, Alex, then 11 years old, was a perfect match. Both Alex’s and Emma’s procedures went smoothly and without complication. As Emma recovered from the transplant, she spent Halloween at the hospital, dressed as Elsa from “Frozen.”

Now in remission, Emma receives checkups every three months to check for cancer-related issues, and she receives an annual checkup to monitor her transplant. With no known permanent effects from chemotherapy, radiation or her transplant, Emma loves dancing, painting and conducting science experiments.

Because of you, our dedicated RE/MAX INTEGRA, New England Miracle agents and Miracle offices, and the donations you make to the Children’s Miracle Network, CMN Hospitals are provided the equipment, therapy programs, family assistance and research needed to benefit kids like Emma. Emma is cared for at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, one of the nine children’s hospitals in New England that benefit from your support.
